Aldine FFA students, art students earn $231,991 at annual Livestock Show

Grand Champion SteerThe Aldine community once again came through in grand fashion and rewarded Aldine ISD FFA (Future Farmers of America) students and AISD art students for their hard work during the 58th annual Livestock Show and Country Fair, held Jan. 25-27 at the M.O. Campbell Educational Center. The 2017 Sale of Champions, art auction and re-sales brought in $231,9991, eclipsing the 2016 sales by $28,048.

For the first time in school history, a Davis High School student was awarded the blue ribbon for raising the grand champion steer. Davis High School student Fernando Gonzalez was awarded the blue ribbon and his steer was purchased by the First Construction Group for $14,000. The reserve grand champion steer was raised by Luis Morfin of Aldine High School and was purchased by the Aldine Vertical Group for $12,000.

The grand champion pig was raised by Nicole Quezada of MacArthur High School and was purchased by the Aldine Buyer’s Group for $6,000. The reserve grand champion was raised by Esmeralda Yanes of Eisenhower High School and was purchased by the First Construction Group for $5,500.

The grand champion goat was raised by Nickalas Cain of Eisenhower High School and was purchased by the Superintendent’s Group for $4,500. The reserve grand champion goat was raised by Bryanna Aguilar of Davis High School and was purchased by Beasley Tires for $4,750.

The grand champion lamb was raised by Alejandra Tobar of Eisenhower High School and was purchased by Caldwell Companies for $6,250. The reserve grand champion lamb was raised by Ana Velasquez of Aldine High School and was purchased by the First Construction Group for $3,500.

APD at the FFAThe grand champion broilers were raised by Jasmin Alvarado Aldine High School and were purchased by the Aldine Vertical for $3,000. The reserve grand champion broilers were raised by Romeo Leza of MacArthur High School and were purchased by the First Construction Group for $3,000.

The grand champion turkey was raised by Esteban Rodriguez of Eisenhower High School and was purchased by the Aldine Optimist Club for $4,500. The reserve grand champion turkey was raised by Fernando Gonzalez of Davis High School and was purchased by the Davis Vertical for $4,250.

Maria Zavala of Nimitz High School produced the grand champion artwork. It was purchased by the Nimitz Vertical for $3,750. The reserve grand champion artwork was produced by Luis Castillo of Nimitz High School. It was purchased by the Superintendent’s Group for $6,250.

The money earned by FFA students can be used for college scholarships or to fund projects for the 2018 Livestock Show and Country Fair.
